Everything you need to find your perfect Australian ring size โ 4 measuring methods, complete AU/UK size chart F to Z+3, international conversions and expert fitting tips
Australia uses a letter-based ring sizing system (F through Z+3) that is identical to the UK and Irish standard. Each letter corresponds to a specific inner circumference and diameter in millimetres. The most accurate way to find your size is always to measure at home using one of the four methods below, then match to the chart โ rather than guessing based on a general "small/medium/large" estimate.
About 3mm wide and 10cm long. A thin strip cut from any paper or card works perfectly.
Dental floss or cotton thread works just as well as paper for wrapping the finger.
A standard ruler with millimetre markings. Accuracy to 0.5 mm makes a real difference.
To mark the overlap point on the paper or string before measuring its length.
Cut a strip approximately 3mm wide and 10cm long from any piece of paper. Thin card or receipt paper also works well โ avoid stretchy materials.
Wrap the strip around the base of the finger you intend to wear the ring on. It should sit snugly โ not tight enough to cut circulation, but not so loose it slides freely.
Slide the paper loop up over your knuckle. If your knuckle is significantly wider than your finger base, size to the knuckle so the ring can pass over it.
Use a pen to mark the exact point where the strip overlaps itself. This length equals your finger's inner circumference.
Lay the strip flat on a ruler. Read the measurement in mm, then find the closest value in the Circumference (mm) column of the size chart below.
Approximately 15cm long. Dental floss is ideal โ it doesn't stretch and has a consistent thickness.
Wrap once around the base of the finger, keeping the string flat and smooth against the skin. Do not overlap.
Pinch where the string meets itself, lay it flat on a ruler, and measure the length in millimetres. This is your circumference โ find it in the chart below.
Divide your circumference by 3.14159 to get the diameter in mm. Both values appear in the AU size chart below for easy matching.
Pick a ring that comfortably fits the specific finger you want to size. Different fingers have different sizes โ don't assume all fingers are the same.
Place the ring on a flat surface. Use a ruler to measure straight across the inside opening โ from inner edge to inner edge โ in millimetres. Be precise: even 0.5 mm changes the size.
Find your measurement in the Diameter (mm) column in the chart below to instantly read off the AU size, US size, EU size, and Japan size.
Print a professional ring sizer template at exactly 100% scale (do not select "fit to page" or "scale to fit" in your print settings). Verify the printed ruler measures exactly 100 mm before use.
Lay your ring flat on the printed circles and find the circle where the inner edge of the ring aligns exactly with the circle's border. The number shown is your size.
Alternatively, cut out the paper strip from the printable guide, wrap it around your finger, and follow the same steps as Method 1. Most jeweller websites in Australia provide a free printable sizer.
