How to Find Your Belgian Ring Size at Home

Wrap a narrow non-stretch paper strip around the intended finger, mark the overlap and measure the length in millimetres. In the common Belgium/EU system, that inside circumference is the most useful size reference.

When a Belgian jeweller lists a ring as size 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 or 60, the number normally represents the ring's inner circumference in millimetres. A Belgium/EU size 54 therefore means an internal circumference close to 54 mm and an inner diameter of about 17.19 mm. It does not mean a 54 mm diameter and it is not the same as US size 54.

Belgium is multilingual, so product pages and shop conversations may use Dutch, French or English terminology. In Dutch, ringmaat means ring size, vingeromtrek means finger circumference and binnendiameter means inner diameter. In French, the corresponding expressions are taille de bague, tour de doigt and diamètre intérieur.

Belgian retailers do not always stock every whole number. Many collections concentrate on selected even sizes, while independent workshops may offer additional increments, custom production or professional resizing. Always state both the requested Belgium/EU size and the underlying measurement in millimetres when ordering from an international seller.

• 🥶Warm cold hands before measuring: winter air and long periods outdoors can make fingers temporarily smaller. Wait indoors until your hands feel naturally comfortable rather than heating them rapidly.
• ☀️Avoid measuring during a heat spike: warm summer days, exercise and prolonged walking can increase temporary swelling and produce an oversized reading.
• 🌧️Use stable indoor conditions: Belgium's changeable weather means a measurement taken immediately after moving between cold rain, heated transport and a warm shop may not represent your normal fit.

• 🕒Check at more than one time: a comfortable evening measurement often gives a practical all-day fit, but repeat the process on another day if the readings are inconsistent.
• 🦴Account for the knuckle: the ring must pass over the widest point and still sit securely at the base. When the knuckle is much larger than the finger base, a professional jeweller can balance security and removability.
• ↔️Wide bands need extra attention: a wide band contacts more skin and can feel tighter than a narrow ring with the same inner circumference. Ask the seller whether the design requires sizing up.
• 🔢Do not confuse diameter and circumference: a 52 mm circumference ring has a diameter of about 16.55 mm. Entering 16.55 as circumference would produce a completely wrong result.
• 📦Review returns and resizing: before ordering online in Belgium, elsewhere in the EU or from a non-European seller, check whether the ring can be exchanged or resized, especially when the band has stones all the way around.

• 💎Engagement rings: confirm whether the shoulders, setting and centre-stone design permit resizing. Pavé, tension and full-eternity constructions can have important limitations.
