A ring intended for the left ring finger should be measured on that finger, not on the matching finger of the other hand. Dominant-hand fingers can be slightly larger, and different fingers on the same hand may need different sizes.
Cut a narrow paper strip or use a flexible measuring tape that does not stretch. Avoid elastic string, thick cord and charging cables. Stretch or thickness changes the measured circumference and can move the result by several size steps.
