Why this guide uses French/European sizing
French/European circumference sizing provides a clear metric reference for French-language jewellery communication. The displayed number is close to the ring's inner circumference in millimetres, making it easier to understand than a conversion based only on letters or small numbers.
Why this is not presented as an exclusive national standard
A reliable public source defining a separate Burkina Faso-only consumer ring scale was not found. Local jewellers may work with physical gauges, and imported jewellery may use another country's system. The page therefore describes French/EU sizing as the most practical reference, not as a mandatory rule for every seller.
How circumference and diameter relate
Circumference travels around the entire inner edge of the ring, while diameter crosses the centre once. The relationship is circumference equals diameter multiplied by ฯ. A diameter of 17.19 mm produces a circumference close to 54 mm.
Why imported products can be confusing
French/EU size 54, US size 7, UK size N and Italian size 14 can represent similar physical openings. The labels are not interchangeable without the system name. Keep both the millimetre circumference and diameter when communicating with a seller.
How heat and activity affect the reading
Warm weather, walking, exercise and temporary fluid retention can make fingers fuller. Strong air conditioning can make them temporarily smaller. Take several readings on normal days instead of applying a fixed climate adjustment.
How a correctly fitted ring should feel
The ring should pass over the knuckle with mild resistance and sit securely at the base. It should not cause pain, numbness or a deep indentation, and it should not slide off when the hand is relaxed.
Why band width changes comfort
A broad band contacts more skin and resists movement more than a narrow ring. The same inner circumference can therefore feel tighter in a wide wedding band. Ask the maker whether the design requires additional room.
Planning for exchange or resizing
Before ordering, check the written exchange period and whether the ring can be resized. Plain metal bands are often easier to adjust than full-eternity designs, tension settings, ceramic rings or bands with stones around most of the circumference.
